PMI Malaysia Chapter October/November 2022 Highlights

CHAPTER EVENTS

15 October @ 8.30PM – 9.30PM

In conjunction with the Pink October & Movember months, WiPM launched a series of programs to create cancer and health awareness. In October, we had a dialogue session with Dilip, who came to share his personal experience of juggling responsibilities at work and family amidst supporting his wife in her cancer surviving journey.

It was tough for Dilip and his family when they first learned that his wife had been diagnosed with cancer. However, Dilip and his family were fortunate to have a strong support system mentally, physically, and financially. Besides being disciplined in diet and lifestyle as they braced through the tough time, Dilip and his family were very positive and spiritually strong. Being kind, positive, happy, motivated, and having faith in God was the key takeaway from the sharing from Dilip.

November 2

“When the stars align, magic happens.”

On Wednesday, 2 November 2022, PMIMY Southern Branch organised a networking dinner among the Johor-based PMIMY members with the PMIMY President, Deputy President, and Treasurer at Johor Bahru, Johor. The stars indeed aligned that day, with thirteen (13) Johor-based PMIMY members attending the dinner, which was on a weekday.

The networking dinner was held at the Vivo Pizza (Setia Tropika outlet), where the members were spoiled for choice with various F&B western and local delights to choose from.

However, the star of the event was not the food but rather the opportunity to network with PMIMY Council members as well as fellow Johor-based PMIMY members. To break the ice, members had a round table introduction of themselves before conversations naturally started to flow, along with the servings of drinks, starters, and main courses. The PMIMY President took the opportunity to update everyone on the latest regarding PMIMY and PMI. The networking dinner ended sweetly at 8 pm with everyone full of desserts and with business cards of new acquaintances.

All participants agreed that PMIMY Southern Branch should organise more networking events in the future. A round of applause was given to the PMIMY Southern Branch volunteers (Tony Hoe, YC Lee, Suresh Munusamy, Fadhil Isma, and Eric Teo) for organising the event.

4-6 November

PMI recently organised the 2022 Leadership Institute Region Meeting for Chapter Leaders from Asia Pacific Regions 9, 10 & 15. This meeting was held at Fairmont Singapore from 4th to 6th November 2022.

PMI Malaysia Chapter was represented by 7 delegates at this meeting: David Khaw, Dr. Joshua Netto, Gayathri Jeyasingam, Sharanjit Kaur, Adam Tan, Henry Lee, and Tan Mei Yi.

PMI Malaysia is part of Asia Pacific Region 15 (Southeast Asia – Pakistan). Region 15 consists of PMI chapters from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi.

Here are the delegates from Region 15 who attended the 2022 AP LIM:

Two PMI Board Directors, Roberto Toledo and Galen Townson attended this meeting. There were several general and breakout sessions on the 5th & 6th of November. Delegates learned about PMI’s progress and milestones during the Opening Session by PMI Asia Pacific leaders and staff members. Roberto Toledo spoke about PMI’s shared aspiration of expanded impact to empower people to make ideas a reality. He also explained PMI’s multidimensional strategy: to broaden our reach, deepen our impact and nurture lasting relationships. The presentations by the PMI leadership team were exceptionally inspiring and certainly did reinforce the sense of belonging among chapter leaders and volunteers attending the sessions.

Delegates were invited to attend separate breakout sessions that discussed various topics such as PMI’s culture journey, special interest communities, engaging volunteers, leadership through empathy, PMI membership model redesign, PMI partnerships, and academic outreach. These sessions enabled valuable knowledge and experience sharing among the speakers and chapter leaders.

In the evening, delegates were invited to a reception at the SKAI Bar and Restaurant. We were feted with scrumptious food and awesome live band music. It was indeed an evening to remember, where we connected and had fun with PMI chapter leaders while taking in the amazing view of Singapore City’s skyline.

During the final day, we gathered with our respective Region 15 participants and had the opportunity to share our chapter’s achievements and challenges during the past year. Mei Yi took the lead in showcasing our chapter’s updates, and she did great!

The motivational speaker Karen Leong concluded AP LIM with an enriching Closing Keynote on The Attitude Advantage. This inspiring session provided pointers on how to elevate our confidence and clarity in leading our teams by tapping our inner strengths and skill sets.

Overall, it was an amazing experience for each of us. We hope to leverage the knowledge gained and connections made with other chapter leaders to further enhance our chapter’s value and services to members.
