President’s New Year Message to Chapter Members

Dear Chapter Member,

Season’s Greetings.

As we approach the end of a very eventful year, we can reflect upon the many achievements and milestones we can all be proud to be associated with.

As with last year, we finished with record membership growth of more than 31% and finally joining the ranks of Chapters with more than 1,000 Chapter Members in October. Our Membership stood at 1,040 at last count, which represented a continuous two-year growth of more than 92%.

Our membership retention rates have also improved year upon year and in July the Chapter was recognised and rewarded for its achievement by PMI Asia Pacific.

Looking forward, I think we can easily double our membership to 2,000 – that will propel the Malaysia Chapter into a Large Chapter Category (more than 1,500 chapter members). How can we do this? Let us each take the initiative to bring an additional member into the Chapter. Everyone needs Project Management Skills – we know it, so why wouldn’t we share this?

During the year we ran the 4th edition of our International Symposium that was graced by our PMI Board Chair, Mark Dickson, and attended by almost 200 delegates from Malaysia and neighbouring countries. Our next symposium is slotted for Sept 24th to 26th, 2018.

In November, we launched the Northern Branch. We aim to follow through with more Branches in the South and in East Malaysia in early 2018.

We also created a number of members-only WhatsApp groups to reach out in particular to our remote Chapter members. There are 5 such groups. If you are not in one of these groups, please do reach out and we can add you in to a relevant group.

We began a process of recognising our long standing members. That will continue into the future. We hope to meet these stalwarts at our next Networking events.

We concluded 2017 by publishing our second Newsletter, Milestones-on-Time before Christmas. We plan to make this a quarterly publication, but we will need your help to provide material that we can publish and share with our publics.

In the New Year, we shall embark upon a new partnership with HELP University. More about this partnership shall be revealed at our next evening talk on Jan 18th.

None of this would have been possible without our members support. I would be amiss to neglect the many volunteers who have contributed towards the chapters success. We still need many more members to step forward and volunteer. Please begin by creating a volunteer profile on VRMS – https://vrms.pmi.org

On behalf of our Board of Directors, may I wish you and your families A Happy, Healthy, Successful and Prosperous New Year for 2018.
